Responsilbilty
The Southwest Ohio Amusement Park Historical Society,
Inc. was founded in 2001 and was organized exclusively for charitable
and educational purposes, including for such purposes, the making
of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations
under section 501-c-3, of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding
section of any future federal tax code.
The purpose of this Society, as set forth in its Constitution
& By-Laws, is:
1) To collect, preserve and own such records, books, manuscripts,
charts, maps, building artifacts, ride artifacts, and other material
as may be deemed worthy of a place in its archives, together with
articles of an historic or antiquarian value to be kept in its
cabinet or other designated location, and to have and hold, buy
and sell, such property, real and personal, as may be necessary
to carry out the objects of the creation of said corporation;
2) In furtherance of these ends, the more specific purposes of
this Society shall be the preservation and utilization of papers,
documents, pictures, objects, and other data and material, both
public and private, of historical significance particularly to
any past or present amusement park located in the Southwest Ohio
region and to the surrounding region;
3) To endeavor to secure appropriate marking of buildings, foundations
of buildings and other places of historic interest;
4) To gather into tangible form and to preserve historical data
of amusement parks in Southwestern Ohio; to collect and preserve
diaries, notebooks, letters or other writings pertaining to the
early developments of such amusement parks, to preserve in permanent
form oral tradition of historic value when necessary or appropriate;
5) To select and preserve such writings, publications and physical
objects that will constitute an appropriate historical record
of outstanding events of the history of amusement parks in Southwest
Ohio;
6) To secure adequate permanent housing for its collections;
to make available for study an inspection by the public its collections
of historical materials; and to incubate in the public an appreciation
of the value to be derived from a study of such materials;
7) To assist in the presentation of historical pageants, celebrations
and observances, and to cooperate with local, city, county, state
and national historical organizations and groups in the promotion
of common purposes; and
8) To preserve and administer historic buildings, sites and rides
associated with past and present amusement parks in Southwest
Ohio; and to provide interpretation and historical education to
the visitors of any property containing materials owned by the
Society or buildings or sites owned or controlled by the Society.
