Speedway (Turnpike) auto ride

The Turnpike Ride replaced the Scenic Ride in 1956. Park owner Edgar Streifthau, his son Lindy and Oxford resident Frank Dodd teamed up to develop the "Streifthau car." The cars were manufactured in a red brick building on the grounds of the Fantasy Farm land and sold to parks around the country. After Streifthau sold LeSourdsville Lake in 1960, he moved the cars into storage and later used them when he opened Fantasy Farm in 1963.

The name of the Turnpike Ride was changed to the Speedway in 1961. [Photo credits: park archives and Scott Fowler]
